To sleep or not to sleep??!! How many suns do you have in your room waking you up?

Once upon a time, I used to read a book before I went to sleep. The nights that I couldn't sleep, a book was my best friend. I could read a book in just a few nights. I would literally day dream all day long about the book that was waiting for me when I got home.

Now...

I have my cellphone to surf social media with and the T.V. is blaring in the background. My husband needs the "white noise" to fall asleep to. I used to set the timer so that at least the noise would get turned off, only to wake up later, my husband awake and is playing on his phone if he wakes up in the middle of the night.

I am guilty of binge watching a T.V. series in bed at night or when I am home sick. I've been known to stay awake for hours not even realizing it.

So why am I writing about this you ask? Sounds like a tech train wreck. I am addicted to turning on anything to numb my mind so I do not have to think of anything.

I have tried to go back to reading books but because the T.V. is on, I get super distracted really easy and start watching T.V. instead.

I am in the process of doing a #mindsetreset that is being put on for free by #melrobbins

One of the things she promotes is a technology free bedroom.

I did some other reading on this as she promotes science, and while I love science, I like to read up on everything myself. Please note, that some of these points I already knew about and have chosen to ignore. (PS...I am actively working on the "head in the sand" approach to life.)

I have learned...

The bright light of the phone, which is considered similar to sunlight, basically turns on your brain like the morning sun would do when it is time to wake up in the AM. So I am guessing that if I wake up at 2 AM to have a pee and check to see who is online, I am telling my brain that I am pretty much ready to start my day at that point.

There are claims that the phone emits radiation. Radiation as we all know cause a ridiculous amount of damage to our bodies, physically and emotionally. I won't go into the specifics because I think we all need to take the time to be self informed.

Vision problems, chronic pain, increased stress from being plugged in ALL THE TIME, accidents, anxiety, vulnerability to online scams, loss of concentration are just a few more things that cellphones alone can cause.

Now on to the bedtime T.V. ...

It wakes you up just like the cellphone does. By this news, I have 2 separate suns in my room during the middle of the night. No wonder we are wide awake in the middle of the night!

Having the T.V on attracts dust? WTF!!??? Like I need more dust in my life!

Depression, sleep disorders, weight gain and it takes away from the sleep that we need.

I could go on, just like all the other websites, blogs and published reports. Now that I have admitted to be educated, I guess its time to take this aspect of my health into my own hands.

So what am I going to do? Ease into change! I am giving myself to Sunday to get the hubby on board and implement some healthy lifestyle changes. We all now that Rome wasn't built in a day and old dogs can be taught new tricks, they just need some treats!

I have to admit, I am excited to get back to reading.
